BRIEF HISTORY OF OFH

From the humble beginnings of more than 40 years ago until the present, gospel ministry continues at 535 Cassia Bvld. Satellite Beach. The vision to start a new ministry in Satellite Beach was birthed in prayer by First Baptist Church of Cocoa Beach, Who sent several members to bring a new work in our city on September 30, 1962. The new ministry was called First Baptist Church of Satellite Beach.

For the next 38 years, the church would continue to be known as the First Baptist Church of Satellite Beach and remain affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The congregation of young families grew as the city grew. New buildings were added quickly during the early years until finally in November of 1978 a new 400-seat worship center was dedicated to the LORD.

Missions seemed to be woven into the very DNA of the ministry from its earliest days. The Holy Spirit stirred the vision to reach Latin America in the first year. A burden to pray for Israel was birthed in some of the early prayer meetings. BY the early 80’s God had begun to send some praying Koreans into the fellowship. By May of 1984, a Korean Mission was formed. Within seven years, the Korean Mission developed into a fully constituted church and purchased property in Melbourne.

Community ministries like the Weekday Preschool. The Thanksgiving Service with area churches, and the Bethlehem Walk the began in the 80’s are still very much a part of the life of this ministry in blessing our city. Building houses in partnership with other local churches through South Brevard Habitat for Humanity added yet another community outreach arm to the church. A countywide prayer ministry called the Space Coast Prayer Network was birthed here after several years of community pastor’s prayer meeting in the 90’s.

A new wave of Holy Spirit power seemed to wash over many of the churches here in South Brevard in the mid-90’s that awakened a hunger for God and a fresh desire to worship GOD in spirit and in truth. The same Holy Spirit of God that had stirred the hearts of HIS people in the early 60’s was once again moving in HIS church. Satellite Beach became the epicenter for weekly prayer meetings. Pastors and church leaders from all over the Southeastern United States came to get in on this move of the spirit and gathered here in our worship center to receive from the LORD and take the power back to their churches. ...

more to come!
